The Attitude of Gratitude

Recently I have been reading a book by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called, "Choosing Gratitude." From the very first chapter, I have been amazed and unable to put the book down! It is full of so many good and convicting truths.

In this fast-paced, me-focused world, too often we overlook or tend to forget the attitude of gratitude. With our eyes forever focused on what we want or what we have or don't have, it's frankly quite impossible to express a grateful spirit.

Because of that, we too often miss the opportunities of gratitude that are all around us.

Soooo, why is gratitude necessary, and who are we supposed to thank?

First and foremost, it is so important to thank God. Thank Him for Who He is, for what He's doing (and has done and will do, for that matter), for His blessings, and for His steadfast love and faithfulness. For, He is the One Whom we are to thank above all. He is the Giver of all things.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." - James 1:17

Expressing our gratitude towards others is also important.
Sometimes we feel it, we think it, but (sadly) we don't take the time to actually express it.

Somehow, there is something special and meaningful in verbalizing our gratitude, especially towards others. Not only does it bless them, but it also helps to give us the right attitude as well as bring us joy in the process.

May you take time today to thank those who have touched your life. Thank them for their kindness, encouragement, or for some special way that God used them to bless you.

{May you take time to express your gratitude today, and may it be as abounding as the grace that God has so freely poured into it.}
